Comedy actress, Imogene Fernandez de Coca (November 18, 1908 – June 2, 2001), Imogene Coca, would have celebrated her birthday today. Like most, I am familiar with Imogene’s work as part of the genius comedy troupe that made Sid Caesar’s, Your Show of Shows a huge success in television’s early days.
That group, Imogene included, remains unequaled in the annals of television comedy as they appeared live every week performing long, complicated sketches in a variety show that set the stage for many popular comedy variety shows that followed. Anyone who takes a look at the work of that group of genius, television pioneers can easily see their work and dedication to entertainment has not been bettered.

As a tribute to Imogene Coca, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some classic ads she appeared in during the Golden Age of television – a short gallery. I enjoy looking at all things classic as a means of remembering these great talents and I hope you do as well.

Simple, perhaps. But still, in remembrance…they just don’t make ‘em like Imogene Coca any more.

I remember that episode of Moonlighting. While I don’t recall the particulars, I certainly remember marveling at her being cast as Ms. Dipesto’s mom. It was a superb match! You’re right, Imogene Coca was one of a kind! Loved her!
